THRIFT STORE HAUL:What I found...

In my previous post "ADVENTURES IN THRIFTING" I mentioned I would post the pieces I purchased on my thrifting trip. Below are the pictures:

Starting from the top left-I have flared denim jeans, a cute blouse with detail. Also, this blouse is a size 18 and I wear nowhere near that size but it fits cute! The bottom blouse is a front and back picture; this top is so cute! I love the detail in the back. Three dolla no holla for each piece.
The shirt at the top left is a black and white stripped. I read this is a major must have. You can dress it with a blazer and some jeans. The mickey tee was just for errand days but I love mickey and minne so this was a no brainer. The bottom left sweater is a light short sleeve sweater. I'll wear it off my shoulder when I wear it. The khaki pants are just something I wanted to have. I will probably wear them just like jeans; with a t-shirt or a turtle neck, cute little belt,  something like that.
Chile, I found that fur coat at the thrift store! I love it, do you hear me?! Loves it! It's rabbit fur..I paid $7.99 for it. Yeah, that was a major moment for me! lol The gold and red blouse is bigger than what I normally wear but I'm going to wear them with a belt some gold studs maybe, I just know it'll be cute. I see the potential! And the blue sweater I love. I like that it's over sized. I'll wear it off my shoulder with leggings.
Overall I think I picked up some great finds while thrifting yesterday and the day before. I purchased these pieces for under $40 bucks. I have fun when I shop. I'm learning more about how to style pieces. It's not what you're wearing; it's about how you're wearing it. I like the fact that I can go to the thrift store and purchase things and still have money to do other things with. However, the thrift store is not the only store I shop at because I'm always up for a bargain. I'll shop at target, walmart, forever 21, macy's, whoever...if the price is right! lol Anyway...this concludes my "THRIFT HAUL."

ADVENTURES IN THRIFTING

I love to shop! I love shopping for clothes, shoes, furniture and anything else that catches my eye. For many years my mother has been shopping at the thrift store but never did I believe I would be shopping there, myself. She would go and find brand new pieces and she always says"I found this at my place....brand spanking new!" Lol last year I stepped into my first thrift store. I came home with so many goodies I couldn't believe it! This led to my addiction! Lol I feel like everything is so reasonable, I should be able to buy more...right? And the thing is, I get a rush when I get 9 clothing items for $30. I also get things for my DIY projects from the thrift store. Sometimes people will ask me where I got something and when I say the thrift store, they're shocked! To me it's not about where you shop it's about how you shop. There are a few "rules" I go by when shopping:

  1. Get away from the second hand mentality! Paying retail is so 2000! lol I have 3 children so, I can't afford to splurge on clothing; I have to ball on a budget and there's no better way to look fabulous and not break my pocketbook than to thrift! Can I get a hello!
  2. Take note of the things you are looking for when you go to the thrift store. If you have a budget this is very helpful. Sometimes the thrift store has so much to look at, you can get side tracked on what you're looking for.
  3. Location is everything. You have to shop at more than 1 thrift store to create a wardrobe. Some thrift stores are good for one thing but not another. For example, I love the thrift store on Dixie Hwy for tops and I love the thrift store in Middletown for their jeans.
  4. Take your time. Searching for good pieces take time. There's nothing like looking like you shop at the thrift store. Take your time to find pieces that look well kept and taken care of.
  5. Ignore sizes! Yes I said ignore the size in the clothes. I've learned that sometimes clothes fit differently according to the brand. Just remember, try everything on. On my last trip to thrift I purchased an XL button down and a small blouse. Both shirts fit great for the look I'm going for with them.
  6. Look for the potential in the things you purchase. You can buy something like a pair of jeans and take them home and rip them for a ripped looked or add patches or anything you'd like.
  7. Lastly, the money that thrift stores and goodwills make go to take care of veterans and families in need. That fact alone, makes me want to buy more! It's great to give back in a sense!

A lot of times I'll surf fashion on the web or other blogs to see what's hot and in style, to incorporate with my own style. I went to the thrift store, yesterday and found some great things. My next post will include pictures of what I got and the ways I can wear it.

I TOOK $12 WITH ME IN HOPES OF FINDING SOME GOOD STUFF. I KNOW THAT TARGET HAS THEIR OWN BRAND OF MAKEUP CALLED ELF AND IT’S PRETTY REASONABLY PRICE. THEY HAVE EVERYTHING FROM BRUSHES, FOUNDATION, CONCEALER…TO SETTING SPRAY AND MOST OF THEIR PRODUCTS ARE $1--$3. I ENDED UP BUYING SOME GEL EYELINER ($3) AND A 96 PIECE EYE SHADOW PALETTE (3). I’M SUPER EXCITED ABOUT THESE DEALS BY THE WAY! J

NEXT UP I WENT TO DEALS. TO BE A DISCOUNT STORE, THEY ALWAYS HAVE GREAT DEALS ON MAKEUP AND RANDOM ITEMS. I CAME OUT WITH A BLUSH ($1), EYELINER ($2 BUT IT HAS 3 EYELINERS WITH IT), AN ORANGE LIPSTICK ($1), AND A FACIAL BRUSH ($1).  I’M REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THE NEW THINGS I HAVE TO ADD TO MY MAKEUP COLLECTION. I’M GOING TO TRY THESE THINGS ON AND SEE HOW THEY WORK!

I'M GROWING MY COLLECTION SLOWLY BUT SURELY. HERE'S WHAT I HAVE SO FAR, ALL FROM DRUGSTORES; WALMART, DEALS, DOLLAR TREE, AND TARGET.

I HAVE CLINIQUE FOUNDATION BUT THAT WAS ONLY BECAUSE YOU RECEIVED A FREE GIFT WITH A $25 PURCHASE AND THE FREE GIFT INCLUDED SOME CLINIQUE MOISTURIZER, EYESHADOW, 2 MAKEUP BAGS, AND MASCARA .

How to upholster a chair

 What you will need:

Fabric

Scissors

Staple gun and staples

Screwdriver

Spray paint

I’ve been tapping into my inner crafter and have been doing a lot of DIY projects. When I went to Hobby Lobby the time before last, I spotted this material that I absolutely loved. I didn’t buy it then, because at the time I didn’t know what I would use it for.  But I ended up buying 2 chairs from the Peddlers mall ( for $3.25 total that was a great deal) so that I could reupholster them,  and went back to Hobby Lobby with the intent of buying the material I had noticed previously. I bought a yard and a half of the material ($17.99 a yard but you can use the 40% off coupon they offer on their website) and went along my way.  I came home and took the chairs apart and washed them and let them dry.

In the seat of the frame it had rusted a little, so I sanded that down a bit. The good thing is the part that’s rusted will be under the seat so no one will see it. J

I spray painted the frame and let it dry over night, just to be sure it was good and dry. While the frame was drying, I took apart the back and seat cushions and reupholstered them.

While the frame was drying, I took apart the back and seat cushions and reupholstered them.

Of course, you will need to cut the material to the size of the cushions and staple the fabric at the bottom of the cushion so the staples won’t be seen.

Once the frame was dry and the cushions had been upholstered, it was time to put the chair back together for the finished result.

BAM!!! Lol Isn’t that cute?!
